Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and its roots are over 2000 years old. Often referred to as the “Science of Eight Limbs”, it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight “points of contact”, as opposed to “two points” (fists) in boxing and “four points” (hands and feet) used in other full contact combat sports, such as kickboxing. Muay Thai is also different from other combat sports as it teaches fighting at close range while standing or “clinch” range where knee and elbow strikes are permitted. A practitioner of muay Thai is known as a nak muay.
BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that teaches a smaller person how to defend himself against a larger adversary by using leverage and proper technique. The Gracie family, the founders of BJJ, modified judo and traditional Japanese jujutsu to create the art. It incorporates the throws and wrestling of Judo, but it is most famous for its devastating ground-fighting techniques. Gaining superior positioning—so one can apply the style’s numerous chokes, holds, locks and joint manipulations on an opponent—is the key in BJJ. It is commonly known as the “Gentle art”.
Our youth program is based on the teachings and drills of Gan Teora. The kids are taught that learning Martial arts is a big responsibility as they are learning skills that could save their lives, and that it is not something which you show off or bully others with. Through the disciplined training, the child will develop self-defense, self-discipline, and self-respect. The children progress through a belt system but unlike some Martial Arts schools we do not believe that a child or parent should be bound to a long term contract that promises a black belt at the end of a year or two. Our Black Belts are the finest examples of men and women that you will find. They are well-rounded martial artists who have recognized the importance of a healthy lifestyle and will demonstrate leadership and maturity in everything that they do. They train here because they want to, not because they are under obligation to. We do not test Black Belts until they are mature enough to demonstrate the qualities you would expect from one.
THAI-BOX FITNESS CLASS
This is a group class that has an average size of about 10 – 20 people in it. The class is a great workout that combines the movement and technique of Kickboxing along with toning and conditioning exercises that are time proven methods to get in shape. Every class is a little different from the last as we try to mix things up and keep you coming back often for the camaraderie and challenge. This class is perfect for somebody who wants an affordable non-intimidating class for all levels of fitness.
POWER HOUR PERSONAL TRAINING
Power Hour Personal training is a private or semi private workout with one of our certified trainers here at the Center. Each workout is one hour and they are by appointment only. In this workout we tailor a program that will help you reach any fitness goals you may have by combining the best endurance elements of Kickboxing and Boxing conditioning, strength training, flexibility, with advice on nutrition and supplements. Each workout is unique and challenging and whereas the National average for a client / trainer relationship is only 3 months, many of our clients have been training here with their trainers for over 10 years. Our trainers have worked with everyone from professional athletes to everyday folks who just want to loose weight and get healthy.
We are an accredited and licensed USA Boxing gym. We have a full size competition ring and a complete array of punching bags, speed balls and double end balls for training. Our team has won the Golden Gloves team trophy numerous times and our coaches have over 50 years combined experience. We offer a beginners class and competition or sparring is not required, however if you want to be trained for competition we can certainly accommodate you.
