News flash for those still pooh-poohing Mixed Martial Arts: The biggest fighting event the city has seen since 1972 will debut in Omaha on Wednesday. The unindoctrinated may not realize it, and boxing fans may not like it, but MMA already has soared past niche sports level and has its sights set on the stratosphere occupied by the NFL, major league baseball, NASCAR and the NBA. And Omaha appears to be on board, with Fight Night in Omaha — televised nationally by Spike TV — possibly just the beginning.
“They’re just dangling the carrot out there for us,” said Mick Doyle, an Omaha gym owner and trainer of MMA fighters. “It’s going to be absolutely huge.”
Easily selling out the Civic Auditorium will go a long way toward getting bigger UFC events to Omaha, perhaps even a pay-per-view event, but there are other growth indicators locally.
What started as a tradition for the competition team 15 years ago has now become a yearly family event here at the gym. This year our 2009 kick workout will be held on Saturday January 3 at 10am. The gym is located on the Southwest corner of 108th and Blondo.
The idea is simple, everybody throws one kick for every year. Yes that’s 2009 kicks on the pads, with a partner, in the air and any other way we can dream up. The whole thing takes about 2 hours and is a ton of fun. This workout can be as easy or hard as you want to make it. As always it is not just open to members from the gym. We encourage you to bring friends family and visitors. So start your fitness program off right and kick in the New Year with your friends at Mick Doyle’s Kickboxing and Fitness Center.

Team Mick Doyle fighter Matt “The Bolt” Bentley was victorious this weekend at Tri-State Cage Fighting (Sioux City, Iowa). Matt won his fight via guillotine choke R3 over a game 5-0 undefeated opponent from Team Pound Out. Check out the video below and see why Mick Doyle is considered by many as one of the premier striking coaches on the planet, turning out fighters like Houston Alexander, Rob Wiley, Bryan Corley, Desmond Wilford and Matt Bentley.
NEBRASKA IS IN THE HOUSE!

The “THAI BOX CLASS” is booming! The average size of classes has been 25 crazy, kicking, punching people. If you want an all over workout this is the place for you. You
may start out jump roping for 6 minutes, stretching against a wall. Then all
craziness breaks out. Suddenly you are holding pads someone is kicking into them, throwing punches. With all your strength you hold that bag and think “I’m Next”. You look at the clock and realize that the hour is almost up and you had a smile on your face the whole time. Just remember it
is best to bring your own gloves (shared gloves get pretty nasty) and arrive 10 minutes before class to get a good spot on the floor.
