It’s hard to be a kid today.

Faced with the pressures of their peers, teachers, adults and the examples of movies, television and music and with superstars and role models in short supply, it’s no secret that young people today are faced with an enormous challenge.

As parents we would like our children to be prepared for the obstacles of life. But in an ever-changing world it is difficult to prepare them for everything that they might encounter. It would be a relief to know that they are ready to make the right choices in whatever they may encounter.

At Mick Doyle’s Martial Arts Center we work to give your child the tools that they will need to rely upon as they go out and face life’s challenges.

Our program focuses on developing the following areas:

Self Esteem

Self Respect

Self Discipline

Self Confidence

Self Defense

Martial Arts are a method of developing a complete person physically, and spiritually.

Physically
Gan Teora develops the athleticism and fitness that a person needs to succeed in life. Balance, power, flexibility, speed, stamina and coordination are all developed through Martial Arts training.

Mentally
When a child learns self-defense they gain a great responsibility. They now possess the ability to harm others, and they must learn to live with this responsibility. At Mick Doyle’s Martial Arts Center we teach our students to fight—so that they do not have to. Through vigorous training and self-discipline they learn to choose when to use it, and when not to.

Spiritually
Martial Art is a journey. Through that journey a student learns who they are, what their strengths are as well as their weaknesses. The student learns individual success and how to win as a team. Somewhere along the way the student becomes a whole person.

In this class the mental and technical aspect of fighting is examined and taught. Gan Teora means “without restrictions” or “without limits”. It is more of a philosophy than a style or system. Unlike traditional martial arts systems where the kata’s and forms are used to teach the basics, students are taught drills to sharpen the reflexes and break down such things as stance, guard, movement, control and balance. Any person wanting to become an instructor in the system needs to have gone through these classes and the groundfighting for about 4 years.

As Thailand’s national sport, Muay Thai has developed over more than a thousand years, originally growing from the necessity to defend the country from expansionary China.
Muay Thai initially developed with bare-knuckle fights and went on, seeing fighters bind their knuckles with hemp rope. During this period there were no rounds, no weight divisions, no gloves with the winner being the one still standing at the end of the fight!
In the 1930’s the Thai government enforced changes in response to the carnage that resulted from such Muay Thai ‘competitions’, this subsequently saw the sport’s entry into the international fighting scene.
Many international boxing rules such as rings, weight divisions and gloves were adopted with many dangerous techniques such as head-butting, limb-breaking and choking techniques banned.
Now in the new Millennium, Muay Thai is undisputed king of the kickboxing ring with the sport enjoying unprecedented popularity around the world.

For those ready to take their training to the next level, Team Doyle is for you. Focusing on competition and physical conditioning in an intense environment team members achieve levels previously unknown. When you add in the support of the team, experienced coaches and a World Champion leader, you will experience your full potential.

“There is something in good men that really yearns for discipline and the harsh reality of head to head combat”
Vince Lombardi on winning

Team Doyle is one of the most successful full contact Muay Thai competition teams in the Nation. Team Doyle is the spearhead of the gym and it is reserved for those athletes who want to compete in full contact competition. Membership to the team is not a guarantee once you join the gym. Candidates are chosen from our student base and are invited to Team training by one of the coaches or senior members of the team.
From this point at special days and times the training is geared to getting you ready to compete. There are rules you must observe while on the team such as conditioning, weight, diet, and behavior. Our competition team is respected throughout the Martial Arts community not only for what we accomplish in the ring but for the way we conduct ourselves outside of competition. We are like a family and we push and respect each other. The are no slackers or bullies allowed. To be a champion you must train like one and with one. This is what Team Doyle is all about.
